Where We Are        Historic Belton Depot

The Historic Belton Depot, once one of the main Great Northern Railway stations that welcomed travelers to Glacier National Park, now houses the headquarters of the Glacier Association.

Originally built in 1910, the depot, in a smaller form, sat below the Belton Chalet and was one of two stations that provided access to Glacier National Park by train. In the 1930's Highway 2 was constructed, allowing access by automobile. At that point the depot was moved to the west by flatcar, down the tracks to its current location. A lobby was added as well as a portico. Received as a donation from the Burlington Northern Railroad in 1991, the depot was renovated with attention to the cultural history and significance of its original use. The portico was later enclosed to provide more office and meeting space. It currently houses the Glacier Association's main offices, warehouse, and a bookstore which are open year-round and supplies the Glacier and Flathead Valley area with interpretive and educational materials.

Though the Belton Depot does not see the same crowds of people that once arrived to visit this great western national park, it still serves Glacier National Park, the Belton Chalet, and the West Glacier area as an Amtrak passenger train station. The depot offers access to the daily eastbound train to Chicago and the westbound train to Seattle, although there are no longer Amtrak service agents present at the depot, baggage checking, or ticket services.

The Belton Depot is located on Highway 2 in West Glacier at the western entrance of Glacier National Park and the Going-to-the-Sun Road. GNHA headquarters are open year-round, Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Mountain Time. Contact information:Glacier Association P.O.
